Dossier (PDF)

Highlights

  • Developed a system for tracking all wrestling matches around the country.
  • In 2013 - elected a lifetime member of the Governor Associate of National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
  • In 2006 he authored the definitive work "The history of Collegiate Wrestling"

Jay's passion and knowledge of Lehigh (and beyond) wrestling was unmatched. His compendium of statistics, matches and wrestling trivia has no peer. Without his work, it is fairly certain we would not have anywhere near the knowledge of wrestling's glorious past at Lehigh.

Jay Hammond first discovered wrestling when he matriculated at Lehigh in 1962. He was a devoted fan and historian for the rest of his entire life. His tastes were catholic, including interests in Folkstyle, Freestyle and Japanese Sumo Wrestling. Alter graduating from Lehigh he worked in banking and finance for 25 years, specializing in investment research. He then operated his own business that provided computer consulting services for individuals and small businesses. He was a long time computer hobbyist and used these skills to develop and maintain elaborate sports statistical data bases for Lehigh and amateur wrestling.

His work at compiling NCAA, EIWA, Big 10 and Big 12 tournament brackets may be found at www.wrestlingstats.com
